Ótivar: Rio Verde Lake - Petrified Waterfall

This lovely scenic trail has spectacular mountain scenery and passes a lake and a petrified tree waterfall. This walk is 9.6km long, has an elevation of 389m and take about 4 hours to complete.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts just after the KM32 mark on the old road to Granada - or the Carretera de la Cabra, as it is known. This is a pleasant hike and begins with a path leading down to the valley floor with fantastic views. You then arrive at a spectacular petrified waterfall close to the end of the path.

Years ago, loggers would use the river to transport felled pine trees to take them to the sawmill at Cázulas. Some would become trapped and over the years, they have become fossilised because of the high levels of lime in the water.

We then cross the river twice. After that, the route is along 4×4 tracks and skirts round one side of a mountain lake. The final 200m – 300m is along the road.

Can you pay in cash: Half the reason for charging is so that we can raise money for a worthy charity . The other half of the reason for charging is that people put their name down for walks without the intention of actually doing the walk and never turn up. Charging in advance is a way of avoiding this.

Can you come without signing up: Everything has its price. If you arrive without signing up we would accept 10 euros per person payed in cash. We only accept notes. We have no change.
